I had to bite my tongue, while seated in Row E9 on Sunday, to hold myself back from bursting into song as Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande passionately delivered the above lyrics of “Defying Gravity” in the film adaptation of the iconic stage musical, WICKED, this past weekend.
I literally clapped at the end of the movie – quietly – although what I wanted to do was cheer enthusiastically! It got me thinking: How often do we hold back, afraid to let our true selves shine, just like Elphaba? Her journey of self-acceptance and courage mirrors a path we can all take in our lives.
