EXPANSIVE.
Oooooooh. What a delicious word that hints to something limitless – something magical – infinite possibilities.
What does expansive bring up for you?
It’s one of my favourite words, so when I heard that John Sanei and Erik Kruger were launching their new book, Expansive, last night, I put on a face (the schlep of putting on makeup doesn’t bring me joy, but I knew this would be worth it), heels (yes, I can wear them again—woohoo!) and braved the icy weather and peak-hour traffic to get to The Tryst.
I took notes (obvs), because so much of what they shared truly aligned for me. If you’ve hung around me for more than five minutes, you’ll know “alignment” is another staple in my vocab and literally in my role description as a life-alignment coach. Alignment is my inner compass for everything—from big life decisions to the kind of people (pun intended) I choose to co-create with.
Here are a few gems from last night—I think they might just unlock something for you too.
“Our brains are addicted to who we’ve been—not who we want to become.”
John nailed it. We’re wired for repetition. For comfort. For keeping things the same (even when we say we want change). So if you’re tired of something—be honest with yourself. Do you actually want to change it, or are you just used to saying that you do?
And if you do want change, maybe it’s time to make it easier for yourself to follow through. That might mean investing in a coach or workshop. (And yes, even the “I’ve paid for it, now I have to show up” motivation totally counts!)
A very smart man, named Einstein, once said that “You cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it.”
So if something in your life isn’t feeling aligned anymore—your job, your relationship, your habits—please don’t keep trying a shinier version of what’s already not working. The shift usually starts with your mindset.
Sometimes, the fastest way to change your mind is to change your environment. Get support. Find people who are going through the same thing, dreaming the same big dreams, and who will cheer you on when it gets uncomfortable. (Because let’s be real—that’s often the part we avoid.)
Then Erik dropped this mic moment, “Will you evolve, or will you expire? Evolution is an active choice.”
This! Right here!
If your current reality doesn’t feel good, then maybe it’s time to choose a more expansive one.
How – where – do you start? That’s where I come in. Or if not me, find someone else who’s helped others make big shifts—someone who can hold space for your transformation and remind you (on the days you forget) just how powerful, and *magical* you are.
One last share from the night—Mark Sham (the host) said, “Sometimes you just need one idea to change everything.”
I just smiled. I’m not sure if he knows about my keynote, The Power of One, or that JUST ONE THING 365 is my charity… but either way, it landed.
So, here’s my question for you today: What is JUST ONE THING you’ll consciously choose, stop, or change today that could redirect your whole story?
Even a pebble creates a ripple— don’t underestimate the power of a small shift. But make sure that small shift is aligned with where you want to go… or you’re just tossing metaphorical pebbles into the void.
If you’re ready for some aligned expansion, here are a few ways to dive in:
- Access Bars Practitioner Class – this weekend
- Vision & Manifestation Workshop 2.0
- Prefer one-on-one coaching?
Drop me a mail for info on any of the above: petra@petralaranjo.co.za
And finally—a big shout out to Mark Sham for always curating incredible events.
PS: If you haven’t grabbed your ticket to the upcoming Suits & Sneakers event with Daniel Priestly—do it! You’ll thank me later. PS> The date has moved to August 😉
