I had my second ultrasound yesterday—no, I’m not about to become an aunt!
Five months ago, I tore a ligament in my foot. After misdiagnoses, a high pain threshold, being hyper-independent, and poor guidance, I’ve been limping around in a moon boot, on crutches, and more recently using a knee scooter. It’s been a frustrating journey, physically, mentally, and emotionally. No hiking, no dancing, no outdoor markets with friends—things that bring me joy.
And the advice I’ve heard the most? “Petra, maybe it’s a sign to slow down.” As a single mom of (previously three) two doggos, a two-story home, and a life built on movement, slowing down hasn’t been feasible. But three weeks ago, when surgery became a real possibility, I finally surrendered to the truth: I needed help.
It’s been tough to admit. As someone who thrives on independence, asking for support felt uncomfortable. How many of us feel this way—believing that we constantly need to manage everything ourselves?
Here’s the thing: I’m used to giving, to leading, to offering my energy to others. But when it came to myself, I resisted receiving. I’ve learned that embracing the power of receiving—whether from others, the universe, or even myself—has been the real lesson. Since I’ve let go of my ego, kindness has shown up in unexpected ways. It’s been humbling, and deeply rewarding.
So here’s a thought: What if the lesson isn’t about slowing down, but about learning to receive?
This reminds me of one of my favorite books, You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay. In it, Louise explores how physical symptoms are often linked to our emotional state. It’s not about everything being a direct manifestation, but worth reflecting on:
- Left Side of the Body: Represents receptivity and feminine energy.
- Feet: Symbolize our understanding of ourselves and our path in life.
- Foot Problems: Often tied to fear of the future and reluctance to move forward.
So, here’s a question for you: What is just one thing you can do today to shift your mindset or your actions? What is one thought, belief, mindset, or habit that might actually change your reality?
(P.S. If you aren’t already, join the JustOneThing365 movement, where we embrace the power of small, daily actions to create meaningful impact. One simple step can transform your life and the lives of those around you.)
Let’s move forward together—one purposeful action at a time.
Sending you love, ease and joy, Petra
