Highly-driven ambitious people procrastinate too.

How many times have you told yourself that you’re going to do x,y and z but, maybe months or even years later, you’re yet to do x,y or even z? Perhaps you’re fiercely focused when it comes to achieving your goals at work but when it comes to your personal life…well…

Highly-driven, ambitious people procrastinate too, it may just be disguised as overwhelm, busyness and being a do-gooder.

This came up in three conversations I had this week. Neither of my coaching clients (two who are in executive leadership positions and another as a business consultant) would describe themselves as procrastinators.

They’re achievers in their workplace and are diligent in getting things done excellently but when it comes to their personal and wholistic wellbeing, they’ll (unknowingly) procrastinate – they’ll put the needs of others above their own, focus on developing their business skills, spend time strategizing and ‘fixing’ everyone else etc.

Do you do the same?

Many of the people I coach are leaders or business owners who are committed to being the best version of themselves. They’ve been so focused on developing their professional skills and IQ but have now found themselves stuck, not understanding why or how to break through the barrier.

The solution? I guide them through the introspective personal development journey to help them get perspective, clarity, identify their blind spots, and identify disempowering habits to help them get unstuck, refocus and accelerate their professional development.

The process? Part of which includes finding the answer to this question (which you can ask yourself now):

How are you self-sabotaging / actively (or unconsciously) preventing yourself from reaching your goals?

One of the common insights is: PROCRASTINATION

Which one of these four types do you resonate with?

The Perfectionist: You over-perform and over-achieve but, because you’re a perfectionist you don’t get started. Your challenge? Getting started.
• The Self-Deprecator: You take on a lot – and others know they can rely on you so they pile it on. When you don’t accomplish it all, you chastise yourself. Your challenge? Taking a break, learning to say ‘no’ (to yourself included) and recharging.
The Busy-Body: You’re overwhelmed and create your own busyness and chaos so as to avoid the root cause of your procrastination. Your challenge? Avoid creating chaos in that area of your life that you need to address.
The Novelty Seeker: Shiny object syndrome. Your biggest challenge? Completion of your existing project(s) before you start another. Need I say more?

What is your favourite avoidance archetype above? It is possible to identify with multiple, across different areas in your life.

Figuring out why you self-sabotage and understanding your procrastination archetype can help you break free from previously disempowering patterns and boost your self-belief. You’ll no longer be letting yourself down.

This, as well as accountability check-ins, perspective to your blindspots, clarity, and direction, quick-fire results, and sustainable transformation form part of how I can support you as a coach.

After ONE coaching session, one of my (new) clients said to me in a mail:

Thank you Linda so putting a smile on my face!
